Berichte über die Ausgrabungen in Olympia

Olympia was one of the most important pan-Hellenic sanctuaries of Greco-Roman antiquity, which brought the entire ancient world together for peaceful competition every four years with the Olympic sports competitions. The excavations carried out by the German Archaeological Institute since 1875, which are regarded as groundbreaking for modern archaeology, have now uncovered almost the entire sanctuary with its numerous representative buildings for cults and sport.

This provides the opportunity to study a central cult site of antiquity not only in terms of its spatial extent, but also to gain a picture of the historical development of the site. The Berichte über die Ausgrabungen in Olympia regularly include summaries of the excavation campaigns, which form the basis for the presentation of the individual monuments, groups of finds and excavation results in the monographs of Olympische Forschungen.
